The brief

Design and build an accessible and easy to use website for sustainable development champions Sustaine.

Sustaine is the independent champion body for sustainable development working across North East England. They provide a ‘support and challenge’ role to organisations, increasing awareness of the issues involved and, just as importantly, the links between them. Their aim is to ensure the principles of sustainable development are embedded within key strategies, policies, plans and programmes, helping to move towards a more sustainable future.

Sustaine work with policy makers, local government, public agencies and private business to embed sustainable development across North East England and so from the get-go a key deliverable was to ensure that the site be clean and lightweight in its design and of course, standards compliant.

Our design process ensured that emphasis was placed on super clear navigation and easy-to-read text to ensure the diverse audience would be able to engage successfully with the site. Making full use of white space, simple black type and careful use of images ensures that this aspect of the brief was delivered effectively.

The website works as a scalable online resource with the client easily able to manage upload of key documents that can be downloaded by the public. This functionality forms part of a powerful content management solution allowing the team at Sustaine to update any area of the site via an intuitive control panel.

The sites lightweight code means it is fast-loading and enables it to be efficiently browsed on most machines
